Chapter 1906 "Recapture" of De'an Station
Chapter 1906 "Recapture" of De'an Station
After the First Brigade and First Regiment arrived at De'an Station, the government army regiment still adopted a combat posture. However, the government army corps commander was very uneasy, because he knew that the First Anti-Japanese Army had always been ruthless in its methods and would not take into account the united front against Japan like the New Fourth Army.
Sure enough, after the regimental commander surrounded De'an Station, he left a gap on the east side of the station and sent a message to the communications soldier: they had half an hour to withdraw from De'an Station, or they would be wiped out.
However, the government corps commander remained defiant, insisting on waiting for their military train to pass.
The regimental commander directly refused:
"Your military trains are prohibited from passing through De'an Station; you'd better find another way!"
Time ticked by, minute by minute.
The main force of the 58th Division rushed over from the periphery to reinforce, but was blocked by the 2nd and 3rd Regiments of the Independent Division.
In the air, several fighter jets from the military were also circling, assuming a combat readiness posture.
The commander of the government army's 58th Division dared not forcefully breach the Independent Division's position, but still ordered his regimental commanders to hold their ground and await reinforcements. He was attempting to buy time and wait for the battle to turn in their favor.
When the government corps commander heard that their reinforcements had arrived, his confidence swelled again, and he refused to withdraw from De'an Station.
With five minutes left until half an hour had passed, the regimental commander began a probing attack on De'an Station using Golden Eagle drones, as a deterrent to the government army regiment.
An air-to-ground missile landed next to a machine gun position held by government troops at De'an Station.
The massive shockwave from the explosion overturned the sandbags at the government army's machine gun positions.
Upon hearing the explosion, the machine gunners at the government army's machine gun positions flinched and immediately opened fire.
Half an hour later, the second air-to-ground missile struck the machine gun position directly, blasting several government soldiers into the air along with the machine gun.
A group of soldiers charged toward De'an Station from all directions, shouting.
Golden Eagle drones strafed fiercely from the air in front of the government forces' positions.
The government soldiers were caught off guard by the Independent Division soldiers opening fire and began to panic.
At this point, most of the Independent Division soldiers' bullets were used for deterrence, and they were not actually aimed at government soldiers.
The regimental commander immediately requested reinforcements from the division commander. However, the reply he received was that the main force of their 58th Division was blocked outside De'an County by the Independent Division.
The division commander ordered them to evacuate De'an Station. But it was too late.
Although the government army regiment adopted a combat posture, it did not dare to actually fire.
After the division commander issued the retreat order, a regiment of soldiers rushed into De'an Station and surrounded the government army regiment.
The regimental commander ordered his soldiers to disarm the government soldiers.
At this point, the government corps commander stepped in to smooth things over:
"Misunderstanding, misunderstanding, it's all a misunderstanding. We have received instructions from our superiors that our military train has bypassed the De'an station, and we will withdraw now."
"Okay, you have twenty minutes to evacuate De'an Station immediately."
"Then, will you return the weapons that your army just seized from our soldiers?"
"Didn't you hear how much weaponry and ammunition we wasted just now? We're confiscating these weapons and ammunition as compensation. You have sixteen minutes left; if you don't retreat, you won't be able to leave."
The government corps commander had a dark expression, but he had nothing to say, so he could only order his soldiers to expedite the withdrawal from De'an Station.
The battalion commander of the 206th Battalion of the New Fourth Army, who had rushed over with the regimental commander, was terrified. But the matter was eventually resolved satisfactorily.
