Chapter 244: Take precautions before they happen
Chapter 244: Take precautions before they happen
Yu Yuetong smiled bitterly to herself. Mutual understanding? Easier said than done. The relationship between her and Qin Reng was far more complex than a simple misunderstanding could be explained away.
"Don't worry, Grandma, I know." Yu Yuetong could only agree with what Old Madam Qin said.
Just then, footsteps sounded on the stairs, and Qin Reng came down. He was wearing a dark gray suit today, which made him look exceptionally tall and imposing, but there was still a hint of fatigue between his brows.
"Grandma." Qin Reng sat down next to Old Madam Qin and glanced at Yu Yuetong. "Miss Yu is back too."
Yu Yuetong forced a smile: "Yes, Grandma asked me to come back for dinner."
Madam Qin smiled and looked at the two of them: "Don't stand there, wash your hands and eat."
Inside the restaurant, a sumptuous spread of dishes filled the table. Yu Yuetong ate absentmindedly, occasionally stealing glances at Qin Reng. He, on the other hand, ate his meal with the same elegant manners and unhurried pace as always, as if everything was perfectly natural.
"Xiaotong, eat more." Old Madam Qin placed a piece of fish in Yu Yuetong's bowl. "You're too thin."
"Thank you, Grandma," Yu Yuetong said, then lowered her head and began to eat.
The atmosphere at the dinner table was somewhat subdued. Old Madam Qin kept trying to start a conversation, but Yu Yuetong and Qin Reng were both uninterested, only occasionally chiming in with a few words.
After the meal, Madam Qin did not rush to have the two leave. Instead, she took two cups of tea from the servants and handed them to Yu Yuetong and Qin Reng respectively.
"Besides having dinner, there's something else I'd like to discuss with you today," said Madam Qin slowly, taking a sip of tea. "It concerns the relationship between you two."
Yu Yuetong's heart sank. Sure enough, they came.
“There have been many rumors circulating about you lately, which have had a certain impact on the Qin family’s image.” Madam Qin paused for a moment. “Ah Xian and I discussed it and felt it was necessary to clarify this.”
Qin Xian, Qin's father, finally made his move. Yu Yuetong sneered inwardly; it seemed she had no choice but to play this role.
"Grandma, what do you want to do?" Qin Reng asked calmly.
Madam Qin glanced at Yu Yuetong and said, "We hope you two can act more intimately, such as attending some events together or taking some... affectionate photos. The rumors will naturally fall apart on their own."
Yu Yuetong's hand holding the teacup trembled slightly, and the tea almost spilled. Taking photos? Wasn't this just asking her and Qin Reng to film that kind of video?
"Grandma, isn't this... a bit inappropriate?" Yu Yuetong tried her best to make her tone sound tactful.
"What's wrong with that?" Old Madam Qin retorted. "You two are husband and wife, isn't it normal for you to show affection? Besides, it's good for both of you."
Yu Yuetong wanted to say something more, but Qin Reng interrupted her: "Grandma is right. Miss Yu and I will cooperate well."
Upon hearing Qin Reng's words, Yu Yuetong stared wide-eyed in disbelief. He had agreed so easily?
Madam Qin nodded in satisfaction: "That's good. The sooner the better. You can make the arrangements tomorrow."
As Yu Yuetong left the old house, her head was buzzing. She sat in the car, silently watching the night view rushing past the window, her feelings extremely complicated.
"Miss Yu, where are we going now?" the driver asked.
Yu Yuetong then came to her senses and took a deep breath: "Take me back to my apartment."
Throughout the journey, Yu Yuetong pondered how to handle the situation. Filming a video? She simply couldn't do it. But if she didn't follow Old Madam Qin and Qin Reng's plan, how could she prove her and Qin Reng's innocence?
Back in her apartment, Yu Yuetong collapsed onto the bed, feeling utterly exhausted. Just then, her phone rang; it was a message from Qin Reng.
"Meet me at the coffee shop downstairs from the office at 6 PM tomorrow night. —Qin"
Yu Yuetong scratched her hair in frustration and replied, "I'm not going. —Yu"
Just after the message was sent, Yu Yuetong heard a knock on her bedroom door.
She opened the door, and Qin Reng stood there, holding a folder in his hand, looking at her expressionlessly.
"You can dodge the first day of the month but not the fifteenth. Miss Yu, you must understand that, right?" Qin Reng's voice was deep and carried an undeniable air. "Unless you want to sleep in the living room tonight."
Yu Yuetong glared at him, pulled him into the house, and slammed the door shut. "President Qin, you're putting on quite the airs! Are you ordering me around or begging me?"
Qin Reng placed the folder on the coffee table and sat down on Yu Yuetong's sofa, crossing his long legs in a relaxed manner. "If Miss Yu thinks it's an order, then it's an order; if she thinks it's a request, then it's a request."
Yu Yuetong was furious at his shameless behavior. She took a deep breath and tried to remain calm. "President Qin, we're not that close, are we? It's not appropriate for you to come into my house without permission."
"Now that we're familiar with the ground, aren't we?" Qin Reng raised an eyebrow. "Besides, Miss Yu, are you sure you want to waste time on this? Why don't we talk about serious matters?"
Yu Yuetong walked to the other side of the sofa, sat down, and picked up the folder to look through it. "What's this?"
“An agreement,” Qin Reng explained, “an agreement about our cooperation in clarifying our relationship.”
Yu Yuetong quickly skimmed through the agreement; it essentially stated that Qin Reng would cooperate with her in a charade, feigning affection to dispel the rumors circulating outside. At the end of the agreement, there was an additional clause: Yu Yuetong was forbidden from revealing the secret of this body-swap arrangement.
"Heh..." Yu Yuetong sneered, tossing the folder onto the coffee table. "President Qin really went to great lengths. What good is this agreement to me?"
"The benefits are obvious," Qin Reng said calmly. "The rumors will disappear, Qin's stock price will rise, and we can both breathe a sigh of relief. Moreover..." He paused, a meaningful smile playing on his lips, "Miss Yu doesn't want to live with the title of Mrs. Qin forever, does she?"
Yu Yuetong fell silent. Qin Reng's words had struck a nerve. She really didn't want to continue like this, but the thought of filming those kinds of videos made her feel extremely uncomfortable.
“I don’t know how to film videos,” Yu Yuetong said firmly.
"Who said we were going to film a video?" Qin Reng retorted. "Does Miss Yu think that the 'taking photos' Grandma was talking about meant filming that kind of video?"
Yu Yuetong was stunned. Wasn't that right?
“Grandma is getting old, and she may not be able to express herself clearly in some ways,” Qin Reng explained. “Grandma probably means that we should attend some events together and take some normal group photos to set the record straight.”
Yu Yuetong then realized that she might have misunderstood. She coughed awkwardly to cover her embarrassment. "If that's the case, then why is President Qin making it so mysterious?"
"Prevention is better than cure," Qin Reng said calmly. "After all, the matter of switching bodies cannot be revealed."
