Chapter 221 The Real Mrs. Qin
Chapter 221 The Real Mrs. Qin
After finishing her meal, Yu Yuetong felt sleepy and decided to take a nap first, dealing with tomorrow's problems later. But she had barely lain down when there was a knock on the door.
"Knock knock knock!" The knocking was urgent and forceful, like a death knell.
"Who is it?" Yu Yuetong called out impatiently, turning over and ignoring her.
"It's me." Qin Reng's voice came from outside the door, cold and with a hint of barely perceptible tension.
Yu Yuetong's heart skipped a beat, and she thought to herself, "Oh no, why is this guy here?" She forced herself to get out of bed and reluctantly went to open the door.
Qin Reng stood at the door, his face grim, his sharp eyes fixed on her. He was dressed in a well-tailored suit, which made him appear even more cold and imposing.
"What...what are you doing here?" Yu Yuetong asked, feigning composure, but inside she was panicking.
Qin Reng didn't speak, but walked straight into the room, looked around, and his gaze fell on the thermos on the table. He walked over, opened the lid, and saw the almost untouched food inside, his brows furrowing.
"Why haven't you eaten?" His tone carried a hint of barely perceptible concern.
Yu Yuetong pouted, "I'm not hungry."
Qin Reng turned to look at her, his eyes deep, as if he could see right through her. "Not hungry?" he sneered. "I bet you don't want to eat at all."
Yu Yuetong felt a little guilty under his gaze, and turned her head away, not daring to look him in the eye. "Say what you want."
Qin Reng took a deep breath, trying to suppress his anger. "Yu Yuetong, don't forget our agreement."
“I haven’t forgotten!” Yu Yuetong retorted, “I just…”
"Just what?" Qin Reng pressed on, his voice low. "Just that you don't want to play along with my act? Or are you trying to back out?"
Yu Yuetong was cornered by him, secretly groaning in her heart. Of course, she didn't want to back out; after all, she still wanted to get a sum of money from the Qin family and run away. But now she was in Qin Reng's body, and every move she made represented Qin Reng. If she wasn't careful, she would give herself away.
"I haven't changed my mind," Yu Yuetong said softly. "I just... need time to adjust."
Qin Reng stared at her for a long time before slowly speaking. "I'll give you time to adjust, but not indefinitely. Tomorrow, I want to see a real Mrs. Qin, not an imposter."
After he finished speaking, he turned and left, leaving Yu Yuetong alone, bewildered in the wind.
"The real Mrs. Qin?" Yu Yuetong muttered to herself, "What the hell? How could I possibly become the real Mrs. Qin?"
She scratched her head in frustration, feeling things were getting increasingly difficult. Just then, a daring idea flashed through her mind…
Late at night, Yu Yuetong tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. She recalled Qin Reng's words before he left, and a vague unease crept into her heart. What was he up to? Had he discovered something?
No, I have to think of a way to test the waters! Yu Yuetong suddenly sat up, a sly glint in her eyes.
Meanwhile, the lights were still on in Qin Reng's study. He sat at his desk, a document in his hand, his brow furrowed. Suddenly, his phone vibrated. He picked it up and saw a text message from an unknown number:
"Want to know what your wife really thinks? See you at the usual place tomorrow morning at nine."
Qin Reng's heart tightened; a strange sense of unease welled up within him. The usual place? Where is that? Who sent this text message?
He pondered for a moment, then replied with a text message: "Who are you?"
The other party quickly replied: "Never mind who I am, you'll find out tomorrow."
Qin Reng put down his phone, rubbed his temples, and his doubts deepened. He glanced at the time; it was already past 2 a.m. It seemed tonight was destined to be a sleepless night.
The next morning, sunlight streamed into the bedroom. Yu Yuetong, wearing Qin Reng's face, practiced smiling in front of the mirror. She deliberately wore a silk nightgown in the style of Mrs. Qin, with a loosely tied belt around her waist, trying to create a lazy and charming feeling.
"Hmm... this should be about right, right?" she muttered to herself in the mirror. "It doesn't seem too deliberate, but it still shows a bit of intimacy. Perfect!"
The doorbell rang downstairs. Yu Yuetong took a deep breath, composed herself, and gracefully went downstairs.
"Good morning, young master and young mistress," the butler greeted them warmly.
Yu Yuetong nodded slightly, trying her best to maintain Mrs. Qin's elegant image. "Good morning, Uncle Wang."
Qin Reng was already sitting in the living room, holding a newspaper. Hearing the sound, he looked up and his gaze fell on her.
Yu Yuetong felt a little uncomfortable under his gaze, so she coughed lightly and walked to the dining table to sit down. "Let's have breakfast."
Qin Reng put down his newspaper, walked to the dining table, and sat down opposite her. There was a table between them, and the atmosphere was somewhat awkward.
Yu Yuetong picked up a piece of toast, spread some jam on it, and ate it in small bites. She secretly observed Qin Reng and found that he didn't intend to make a move; he was just quietly watching her.
"Why aren't you eating?" Yu Yuetong asked, feigning concern, but secretly wondering to herself: What's this guy up to?
Qin Reng did not answer, but stared at her with eyes so deep they seemed to devour her.
Yu Yuetong felt a chill run down her spine under his gaze. She couldn't help but put down her bread, pick up a glass of milk, and take a sip. "Um... the weather's nice today," she said, trying to break the awkward silence.
Qin Reng finally spoke: "You today..."
"What's wrong with me today?" Yu Yuetong asked nervously, her heart skipping a beat. Had he discovered something?
"You look beautiful today." Qin Reng's tone was calm, but it stunned Yu Yuetong.
What... what's going on? Is he praising her? Yu Yuetong felt like she'd been struck by lightning, and it took her a long time to react.
"Thank you," she replied curtly, her mind filled with even more doubt. What exactly was Qin Reng up to?
Just then, her phone rang. It was the number that had sent the text message yesterday. Yu Yuetong glanced at Qin Reng, and seeing that he didn't react, she got up and went to a corner to answer the call.
"Hey?"
"Are you ready?" The other person's voice carried a hint of amusement.
Yu Yuetong was completely confused. "Prepare what?"
“Of course… it’s about dealing with your ‘husband’.” The other person’s tone was meaningful. “Remember, be natural, be realistic.”
Yu Yuetong was about to ask further questions when the other party hung up. Holding her phone, she returned to the dining table, looking bewildered.
Qin Reng had already stood up. He walked to her side and said softly, "Let's go, it's time to go to the company."
Yu Yuetong was stunned for a moment, then realized what he meant and quickly followed in his footsteps.
Neither of them spoke the rest of the way, and the atmosphere in the carriage was eerily quiet. Yu Yuetong secretly observed Qin Reng and noticed that he maintained a profound and unfathomable expression, making him impossible to understand.
The car slowly stopped in front of the Qin Group building. After Qin Reng got out of the car, he looked back at Yu Yuetong with a complicated expression.
"Let's go," he said, and then walked into the building first.
Yu Yuetong took a deep breath and followed suit. She knew a major battle was about to unfold...
