Chapter 131 Wouldn't that just mean my body is still suffering?
“It’s not that you’re letting her go,” Qin Reng glanced at Yu Yuetong indifferently, “but that you’re using the wrong methods.”
"What method?" Yu Yuetong almost jumped up; she was furious. "She just needs a good beating!"
"Shut up." Qin Reng snapped in a low voice, his tone like an ice pick piercing her nerves. "If you're not smart enough, I won't embarrass myself with you."
"You!" Yu Yuetong's eyes widened in anger, and she was about to retort when she noticed that Qin Reng had already released her hand, turned around, and took a step closer to Ji Momo. He blocked Ji Momo's path, and the coldness on his face suddenly turned into a chilling smile, as if a sharp, icy current was hidden beneath the frozen surface of a river in winter.
“Miss Ji, you’re quite talkative today.” Qin Reng’s voice was deep and magnetic, carrying an air of pressure. He leaned forward slightly, placing one hand less than five centimeters away from Ji Momo. “I suggest you shut up, or I can help you.”
Ji Momo's back was pressed against the wall, her smile faltering slightly, but she quickly composed herself, forcing a calm demeanor. "President Qin, I was just concerned for you, that's why I said a few more words..."
Qin Reng narrowed his eyes, as if he saw through her disguise. "Feeling sorry for me? Fine, I won't stop you." He straightened up and adjusted his cuffs. "However, if you dare to use 'concern' as a pretext to get my attention again, you should be able to imagine the consequences, hmm?"
His last, low question, punctuated by a slight upturn, made Ji Momo freeze for a moment. She wisely refrained from saying anything more, smoothed her hair, and smiled awkwardly. "Mr. Qin is right, I did talk too much today. I won't disturb you two any longer. Have a good chat." With that, she covered her face with a coy smile and quickly slipped out in her high heels.
"Tch, what a hypocrite." Yu Yuetong couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Qin Reng, why won't you let me beat her up? Are you secretly feeling sorry for her?"
Qin Reng looked at her speechlessly, "Is your brain just for storing this garbage?"
"What did you say!" Yu Yuetong glared and raised her hand as if to hit him, but Qin Reng gently raised his hand to block it. He looked at her with utter disdain, as if she were an ignorant child. "In the future, before you hit someone, use your brain, okay? She just recorded the whole thing. Does she really want to see you get blackmailed by her?"
"What?" Yu Yuetong was stunned for a moment, staring blankly at the doorway, and finally realized, "Goodness, this scheming is even deeper than in the drama!"
"You only realize it now?" Qin Reng chuckled, then suddenly pressed his palm against her head. His tone was slightly teasing, yet contained a hint of barely perceptible tenderness. "Stop causing trouble for me. If you keep acting so impulsively, I'll really start to wonder if you've lost your mind."
"You!" Yu Yuetong hesitated, then angrily slapped his hand away. "You stinking Qin Reng! Don't think this is over!"
"Whether it counts or not isn't up to you to decide." Qin Reng's tone was slightly raised as he glanced down at her, his gaze carrying a hint of mockery and threat. Then, he walked straight to the window, leaving Yu Yuetong stomping her foot in anger before suddenly turning around and chasing after him.
The tense atmosphere between the two did not seem to subside after Ji Momo left; on the contrary, it seemed to have been ignited into an even more intense conflict.
Just then, Qin Reng's phone screen suddenly lit up, and an unexpected message broke the silence in the room.
Qin Reng's usually cold and sculpted face showed a subtle change the moment the phone screen lit up. His brows furrowed, and his slender fingers swiped across the screen, his gaze falling on the new message, his expression so subtle it was impossible to decipher.
"What's wrong? What happened?" Yu Yuetong put her right hand on her hip, waved her left hand, and leaned over nonchalantly. "Is your little lover here to prove some 'Rules of Torture for Domineering CEOs' again?"
"Shut your mouth," Qin Reng whispered, his tone carrying a hint of tension he himself was unaware of.
Yu Yuetong narrowed her eyes. She didn't care where these deep and complicated emotions of the man came from. All she knew was that a full ten seconds had passed since the phone screen was opened, and this guy hadn't even offered a single explanation!
"Hey! You didn't get some kind of breakup warning from a third party on the phone, did you?" Yu Yuetong winked and deliberately moved closer to him teasingly, a hint of mischievousness in her eyes. However, she had only taken a small step forward when she felt her feet suddenly stop—Qin Reng was blocking her way.
"Stop." The man lowered his head, a sharp glint flashing in his deep eyes. "Don't come near me unless you have to."
"Tsk tsk, what are you blocking? Are you trying to protect yourself from wolves?" Yu Yuetong crossed her arms and casually raised her chin. "We're supposed to be a couple, so why all this pretense? I'm not peeking into your secrets!"
"You?" Qin Reng raised his eyes, a slight smirk playing on his lips. "It seems your intelligence isn't enough to understand."
These words felt like a stab to Yu Yuetong's lungs. Her eyes widened in shock. "You stinking Qin Reng! You're so good with words, anyone who didn't know better would think you owned a knife-edge dumpling shop!"
"Heh," Qin Reng laughed after hearing this, his laughter steady but with a hint of contempt, "If you can make money this well, maybe it can make up for your overall incompetence."
"Lower your head my foot—" Yu Yuetong was so angry that she was about to pounce on him to uphold justice when Qin Reng suddenly reached out and pressed her shoulder. His nonchalant expression vanished, replaced by an almost breathtaking solemnity and calmness.
“Listen carefully.” His voice was deep, with an unusual seriousness. “From this second onward, no matter what you hear or see, do not act rashly.”
Yu Yuetong was stunned for a moment, "Hey, what are you doing? Suddenly turning into a suspense drama? Just say it clearly if you have something to say!"
"Stop talking nonsense." Qin Reng interrupted her directly, looking at her coldly, and said, word by word, "We're being watched."
"Huh?" Yu Yuetong didn't react for a moment, thinking that Qin Reng was just being mysterious again. But when she stared at his icy expression, a sense of unease suddenly rose in her heart—this man's expression was much more serious than ever before.
"Who's eyeing us?" Yu Yuetong unconsciously lowered her voice, her tone still half-joking, but her pace noticeably slowed down. "It's not your unwanted suitors, is it?"
This time, however, Qin Reng did not retort as he had before. He simply looked at her coldly, his gaze drifting out the window. "I don't know. It hasn't shown its true colors yet, but... it won't be long."
