Chapter 4370 Justice League: Assemble (18)
With a "splash," a pirate's head was severed. A strong man in armor stood on the sea. Suddenly, a spear shot from his hand, piercing through several other pirates. A sunken ship rose from beneath his feet. Navigating this ship, he reached a nearby island.
Several tribesmen followed him ashore. Once out of the water, the man's face became even paler, and his eagle-like eyes constantly scanned his surroundings.
"What's going on in the south?" he asked.
“There’s nothing seriously wrong; our rule is relatively stable,” one of the subordinates replied. “It won’t be long before we can rule the entire Caribbean. This will help us gain the trust of the Seven Kings.”
The leader nodded. But at that moment, another subordinate said, "Several unfamiliar ships have recently arrived in the eastern sea area. They seem to belong to that big country."
The man immediately stopped, turned around, and said, "A big country? You mean America?"
"Yes, it seems to be their police, the police who specialize in the ocean. They patrol the sea constantly."
"Patrol? What's on that sea?"
"In fact, there was nothing there, nothing on the seabed. But their search area was quite large, so it seemed like they were looking for something."
“Send someone to find out what they’re looking for.” The man switched weapons and said, “Those self-proclaimed Americans are the most cunning and treacherous; they better not be trying to get in my way.”
The man stepped into the tent on land and sat down. Soon, another subordinate came to report: "Your Highness, we have captured a policeman. Would you like to see him?"
"Let him in."
The policeman was soaking wet, shivering, and looked terrified. The man sat there and asked in slightly accented English, "What are you looking for?"
"I...I don't know..."
A spear grazed his ear. The policeman screamed, then said, "I really didn't know. They kept saying there were some weapons in the sea and insisted we go retrieve them! We were just doing our jobs for money, who knows what those old men were thinking!"
"Weapons? What kind of weapons?" The man's first thought was of human cannons, but he also knew that most human artifacts were unusable once they fell into the sea, and no one would bother to retrieve them. So what were they trying to retrieve?
"I...I really don't know. I've only heard it's something that can be used underwater...Or...I'll call back and ask..."
“You’d better not try to tip anyone off,” he said. “Although you’re definitely not going to get out of here, I suppose you still have a wife and children, right?”
The policeman swallowed hard and said, "I'll get the answer for you, but don't lay a hand on them."
The man nodded. The policeman dialed the number shakily and said, "Um, we...we think we've found something...but...you have to tell me exactly what it looks like before we can decide whether to retrieve it...a trident? Like the one from mythology?"
The man stood up abruptly. His subordinate immediately stepped forward, saluted, and said, "Your Highness Om, they must be referring to the Golden Trident."
Om quickly walked out to the shore, gazed at the sea, and said, "Of course I know, the legend is true, there really is a golden trident."
"But why would humans want to find this thing?" the subordinate asked, puzzled. "They don't want to rule the oceans, so even if they found it, they wouldn't be able to use it."
Om took a deep breath and said, "They can't use it, but someone else can. Where is my dear fiancée?"
"I'm sorry, Your Highness, we haven't found her either," the subordinate said somewhat helplessly. "Our initial assessment is that she may have gone ashore."
“These women are never obedient; only absolute force and power can subdue them.” Om twitched his nose slightly, a fierce look appearing on his face, and then said, “Project Tsunami is suspended. I need to figure out why humanity is looking for the Golden Trident, and whether they can even find it.”
The subordinates received the order and immediately went to investigate. However, it was obvious that the Sky Eye, which had been taken over by the agents, was leaky like a sieve. As a result of the intertwining of various forces, Schiller's conversation with his subordinates was transmitted to Om verbatim.
“The bastard…” Om raised his eyes, revealing a fierce look, but quickly regained his composure and said, “Mera doesn’t approve of my plan. She must have gone to find that bastard, hoping to use him to stop me, but she’s too naive.”
"And then there are the humans, who want to help that bastard defeat me by retrieving the Golden Trident. I won't let them succeed."
"Should we look for it too, Your Highness?"
"Go find them, and be faster than them!"
"Yes!"
Maine, located on the east coast of the United States, is the northeasternmost state, almost embedded within Canadian territory. Even so, it boasts a long coastline. And Harbor Amherst is an unassuming seaside town on this coast.
Tom, the lighthouse keeper, was a true local of Amity Harbor, and like the other townspeople, his life was somewhat dull and boring, but always peaceful. Until one day, he broke his tradition of not going to bars during the day and walked into the town's only bar.
As soon as he stepped inside, he heard a news report on TV: "Mysterious man rescues hijacked submarine, is it a sea monster or a hero..."
The next scene showed a familiar face. Tom saw his son in the news report, and at that moment, everyone in the bar cheered.
A tall figure walked over from the other side, sat down next to Tom, turned to him and smiled, saying, "I knew you'd come here."
Tom smiled and patted him on the shoulder, saying, "You did the right thing. You saved a lot of people. I'm proud of you, Arthur."
The tall man, known as Arthur, took the drink from the bartender. The bartender tapped the table and said, "It's on me, hero."
Arthur laughed again. He was about to say something when he turned around and saw a tall, muscular man standing behind him, looking very unfriendly.
Arthur was somewhat bewildered. He recognized the man; he was the town's ringleader. Although he had a bad temper and often got into arguments, he wasn't a bad person. Moreover, the lighthouse keeper was a very important figure, and the townspeople generally wouldn't easily offend him. After all, the lighthouse's light was the fishermen's hope for returning home, and everyone remembered him with some gratitude. Sometimes, his words carried more weight than the mayor's.
Arthur clenched his fist. If these guys dared to act recklessly, he would show them how he defeated the pirates on the submarine.
Unexpectedly, the tall gang leader pulled him close, took out his phone, and wanted to take a picture with him. Arthur was a little helpless, but still smiled at the camera.
The gang leader extended his hand, and the two shook hands. He said, "Well done, Arthur. You and your father are good men. God bless you."
Arthur smiled at him and sat back down in his seat. Tom looked at him and said, "How does it feel to be famous?"
Arthur shook his head and said, "This is nothing. A news broadcast is only thirty seconds long. If one day my name is all over the prime-time channels, that's what real fame is."
Tom laughed and said, "Don't chase after fame, just follow your heart..."
“I know, stay kind, be a good person.” Arthur nodded.
After finishing their drinks, they drove home. Halfway there, Arthur suddenly saw something ahead. He thought it was a deer, so he slowed down to try and go around it, but instead discovered it was a strangely dressed red-haired woman.
Arthur slowly stopped the car, opened the door and got out. He looked the other person up and down, then said, "Are you alright?"
The woman stepped forward and looked at him, then suddenly reached out and touched his shoulder. Arthur immediately stepped back warily. The woman, however, seemed relieved and said, "It really was you."
"who are you?"
“Mera, I am a sea creature.”
"Sea creatures?"
"Yes, you are too. I came here to find you."
Arthur thought for a moment. He didn't deny that he was a sea creature, because he knew perfectly well that ordinary humans couldn't move freely in the water, let alone possess such great strength. Moreover, his father had always been vague about his mother, and now it seemed that he might be a hybrid of sea creature and human.
"Alright, what do you want from me? If it's about defending those pirates, we might have to fight."
“Pirates? What pirates? I’ve come to you about the sea,” Mera said, looking at him. “The sea prince Orm wants to rule the world, and he intends to start a war.”
Arthur turned and left.
“Hey, don’t go!” Mera chased after him, “He’ll conquer the seven sea tribes first, then he’ll annex the continents, and the entire land world will be destroyed…”
"Stop playing video games, what do you think this is? Metal Slug?" Arthur walked back to the car with a speechless look and stepped on the gas. Mera helplessly stretched out her hand, and a curtain of water blocked the car.
Arthur immediately became angry; his father was still sitting in the car. So he jumped out of the car and charged at Mera. Mera, unaccustomed to land, was tackled to the ground.
Arthur grabbed her by the neck and said, "Don't bother me."
At that moment, his father rushed out of the car, grabbed Arthur around the waist, shoved him aside, and said, "What are you doing! Don't treat a lady like that! This is too violent!"
Mera got up from the ground, wiped the water off her cheeks, and said, "I'm not kidding. That guy named Om is a complete madman. It won't be long before he causes a tsunami. He calls it a warning to humanity, and a lot of people will die!"
Arthur still looked unconvinced, but Tom seemed to remember something. He said, "Your princess... I mean..."
“She was banished,” Mera sighed. “She had a conflict with the old king, and although she eventually married her fiancé and gave birth to Orm, she was banished to the trench and is probably dead now.”
Tom took a deep breath, his face filled with disbelief. He staggered to the side. Arthur quickly caught him, then glared at Mera.
“I’m sorry,” Tom said, looking at Arthur, “about your mother, I…”
“It’s okay, Dad. If you don’t want to talk about it, then don’t. It’s all in the past,” Arthur said. “I think life is fine now. Don’t think too much about it.”
“No…no…” Tom suddenly straightened up and looked at Arthur, saying, “We have to find a way to stop them.”
Arthur frowned at his father, somewhat puzzled. Tom shook his head and said, "You don't know what happened back then, those strange men who rushed ashore... Come with me, I'll take you somewhere."
