Chapter 4345 Body of Steel (Fifty)
That would have been about enough. However, drinking water wasn't so easy in this environment. Bottled water wasn't convenient, so Clark went back and got some straws. To keep himself entertained, he also grabbed a few books. It was quite cold on the moon, and although Clark wasn't afraid of the cold, being warmer would be good, so he brought a blanket as well.
Now that everything was ready, Clark lay down on the recliner, pulled the blanket over himself, and began searching the Earth for the sounds he wanted.
Once he actually started doing the job, he realized how boring it was. When listening in, 90% of the information was completely useless. The conversations of these employees were pretty much the same as in any other office in the world.
I get coffee first thing in the morning, then go to the restroom to play on my phone. When I get back, I work for a while, then start thinking about what to have for lunch. After lunch and my lunch break, I start counting down the time to leave work.
After listening for a while, Clark took two naps. He felt there was really nothing else to listen to in this base, so he decided to eavesdrop on that woman named Amanda Waller, "She's definitely up to something."
However, after waking up from his nap, Clark felt the urge to urinate. The lunar environment wasn't ideal for casual urination or defecation, and the beverage bottle he brought with him didn't have a wide enough opening. Clark had no choice but to fly back to Earth to relieve himself.
While flying that distance wouldn't be difficult for Clark, it was still quite a hassle. He couldn't possibly go back to Earth every time he needed to use the restroom, could he?
The moon is great in every way, except it's too desolate and lacks any infrastructure. Having grown up in a prosperous, civilized society, Clark couldn't adapt to this wilderness survival environment. But this surveillance was a long-term project; they might not be able to get important information in a day or two. So what should they do?
Of course, Clark could hear him from his bedroom at Wayne Manor, but he just didn't want Batman to think he was a lazy bum who stayed home all day. So even if it meant going out of the way every day, he still had to go out.
However, once he left Wayne Manor, he would be easily monitored by the Sky Eye Society, so he naturally had to choose a place far enough away, preferably not on Earth, to be safer.
Where is there that is neither on Earth nor too far away, yet also has convenient living facilities?
Clark suddenly had a flash of inspiration and thought of the Kryptonian spaceship in near-Earth orbit.
Zod didn't know why he ended up on Earth, got captured, and turned into a grotesque monster, which he eventually drove away. He figured the general was too ashamed to return to the ship, so there should only be a few low-level soldiers left. He figured he could sneak back without being discovered.
Clark thought his idea was brilliant. He packed his things and began searching for the spaceship in near-Earth orbit. He found it quickly and then sneaked into the frigate's hatch.
The situation was completely beyond his expectations. There weren't just a few henchmen on board; there wasn't a single person. Clark not only searched the ship with his senses but also personally searched the entire vessel several times. It was indeed empty; the ship was now completely deserted.
Clark felt like he'd been struck by lightning. What could he do? It was a bit too kind of him. He'd come all this way, not only hadn't he accomplished anything, but he'd also been given a spaceship. Thank you!
It has to be said, the Kryptonian-made spaceship is truly impressive. Forget about privacy and security for a moment; the hemispherical floor-to-ceiling windows offer a panoramic view of the entire Earth. The lobby is spacious and bright, the bedrooms are comfortable and cozy, and the entire spaceship is equipped with a gravity system, so going to the toilet is no longer a problem. Sitting in the commander's seat, Clark felt like a nouveau riche—it was simply amazing.
Sitting in the spaceship, Clark could still hear the sounds coming from Earth. Too lazy to monitor the base, he began tracking Amanda Waller directly. And, coincidentally, he overheard a conversation between Amanda Waller and another voice.
“You know you have no choice. You are no longer that child prodigy who, at a young age, took control of a vast business empire and brought glory to the group with your inventions. The Luther Group no longer belongs to you, Mr. Luther.”
Amanda's footsteps echoed in the dimly lit room as she paced back and forth, her voice growing increasingly somber: "Your sentence is in. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, you'll be in jail for three years… Do you think the court has been lenient with you?"
"No, no, no, what I mean is, your death is in three years. And they're giving you these three years just to get you to spill more. Both the military and the federal government need your wisdom. Especially since they can't control Superman. I think you should understand what you'll face in these three years."
"They're planning to send you to Belliv Prison. If you don't know what that is, let me tell you. It's a place that specifically holds supernatural criminals, people with superpowers, including highly intelligent criminals like yourself. And unfortunately, I'm the warden of this prison. So, do you understand what I mean?"
“You want me to work for you?” another hoarse voice came. A hand reached for the railing, gently gripped it, and then stood up. Emerging from the shadows was Lex Luthor’s face.
He had lost all his hair and looked ten years older, appearing very haggard and tired.
“Yes, this is good for both of us.” Amanda turned to him and said, “I can guarantee that you will retain limited freedom during our cooperation. I will provide you with a very favorable environment and can even help you solve some of the problems. Perhaps in the future, you will have the opportunity to take back the Luther Group?”
"Hahaha...hahahahaha!" Lex suddenly burst into maniacal laughter, then grabbed the railing and stared intently at Amanda, saying, "Limited freedom? A comfortable environment? Taking back Luther Corporation? Do you think I'm a three-year-old?"
“If I agree, you’ll just be moving me to another prison, still keeping me under tight surveillance. I’ll have to do whatever you say, and invent whatever you want. No… that’s impossible!”
Amanda's face darkened, but her tone remained calm. She said, "It's not up to you, Mr. Luther. Like you said, you're going to jail eventually. At least I can arrange a decent place for you instead of throwing you into a multi-person cell full of supernatural criminals."
"Forget it, it's okay if you disagree now. After all, a pampered young master like you can't imagine what life is like for the lowest-ranking prisoners in prison. Once you experience it for yourself, you'll come begging me."
Amanda turned and left. Lex slumped back into his seat, as if he had suddenly remembered something. He began to tremble, his heart raced, his breathing became rapid, and his blood pressure rose.
Clark, who was listening to all this, gasped. He almost called an ambulance for Luther. Fortunately, the police found him in time and took some emergency measures.
However, to Clark's surprise, Amanda would actually go to Luthor. But that made sense. While Luthor didn't possess superpowers, he was a genius scientist who could invent all sorts of things, making him an invaluable asset to any organization.
Don't be fooled by his current imprisonment; it's simply because he lacked political acumen. He made a series of blunders in his political maneuvering, ultimately becoming a scapegoat without any effective countermeasures. However, this doesn't mean he wasn't a good scientist. After all, not everyone is as adept at both political maneuvering and scientific research as Newton. Most scientists don't excel at political maneuvering, yet that doesn't prevent them from achieving lasting fame.
Even just for his inventive abilities, many people would be willing to bail him out. It's just that Amanda has the advantage of being in a good position, and it seems that Luther has no room to refuse.
Just like Amanda said, throwing someone in jail for two days would cure any illness. Although Clark had never been to prison, he could imagine what life was like there, let alone a supernatural prison.
No, he couldn't let Amanda succeed, Clark thought. That damned intelligence chief wouldn't let him off the hook. If she really got some good equipment from Luther, he'd be in even more trouble. Even just for that reason, he had to sabotage the whole thing.
Clark had a rather awkward feeling. Although Luther was his enemy, he also admitted that Luther was a very capable scientist. If he hadn't been so malicious, his inventive abilities alone could have made significant contributions to human society. But he chose the worst possible path, and Clark couldn't help but feel a little regretful. If Luther had truly been a good scientist and promoted scientific progress, perhaps one day, places like the tent district would no longer exist?
Clark sighed inwardly. He had no idea how this young master had developed such a twisted personality. There were plenty of aliens and superhumans in the world, so why single him out?
Clark's emotions were actually quite complex. Rationally, he should help Luther; but emotionally, he was unwilling to save his enemy, after all, this guy had almost kidnapped his mother.
Just as Clark was struggling with his thoughts aboard the spaceship, he suddenly heard Luther's voice again. The man had appeared in the police station's infirmary, but seemed to be having a nightmare, repeatedly shouting, "No, no..."
The tone sounded strange, not like an adult, but like a child, completely different from Luther's usual hurried and rapid tone, and even sounded somewhat pitiful.
Clark stopped in his tracks. He realized that Luther might not have been born insane; he might have some dark past that no one knew about. Clark had to admit that for a moment, he was somewhat pleased.
This wasn't him gloating; rather, he felt he had finally found a reason to save Luther. If Luther had also become like this due to some bad experiences, then his various evil deeds couldn't be entirely blamed on him; there was an element of being forced into it.
That way, Clark could help him. He was confident that Martha would support him in doing so.
However, he couldn't just ask Luther directly; Luther certainly wouldn't tell him. Clark thought for a moment and figured he might be able to find some clues at Luther Manor.
So he flew back to Earth and arrived above Luther Manor, only to find a large group of people moving things out. It seemed, as Amanda had said, that the Luther Corporation was no longer related to Luther, and this magnificent manor was likely to be emptied.
Fortunately, with so many people around, Clark managed to sneak in unnoticed. While everyone else was moving valuables, he went to the study to look for clues.
Clark searched for a while and found a group photo first. However, there was only one man and one little boy in the photo. The little boy looked like Lex Luthor, and the man was probably his father.
