Chapter 3961 MU: The Superbody Incident (Forty-One)
The young Magneto, Eric Lansheer, was sitting on his sofa at home, his fingers pressed against his temples, his head slightly lowered.
Suddenly, a very loud cry came from behind him. He was startled awake and turned around to look: a baby was crawling out of the bedroom, crying as it crawled, and reaching out to grab the chair leg.
"Franklin...no!" Magneto reached out, holding the chair, and it flew up. But then another baby wobbled out, a little bigger than the crawling one, and already able to walk. He also howled, and the plates on the table began to tremble.
Then the baby lying on the ground turned around and made a "ya" sound towards the other baby, and the standing baby made another "ya" sound. The lying baby started making "ee-ee-ee" sounds again. Then the standing baby started crying.
Magneto sighed, walked over and scooped the one lying on the ground up, then shouted towards the bedroom, "Wanda! Wanda! Take Thomas back!"
The red-haired woman quickly ran out, picked up the wailing little Thomas, and patted his back to comfort him. Magneto peeked into the room: Jarvis was playing with building blocks with the Billy brothers, while Carter was tidying up the diapers he had just changed.
It was less like his home and more like a giant kindergarten, a playground for four Omega-level mutant babies. Ever since this collective babysitting activity began, Magneto hadn't had a full night's sleep. He could only thank the Golden Apple; otherwise, his aged body might not have been able to keep up.
"Anya," Wan Ciwang called upstairs, "you'd better hurry up, you're going to be late for school."
"Coming, coming!" A little girl with a schoolbag ran out. However, she only existed in Magneto's field of vision, because she was merely a soul entity, or rather, a brainwave. Her inherently weak body hadn't been with her for long, causing her to exist in this way. Fortunately, her biological father was no ordinary person and could sense her presence entirely through magnetic fields.
Anya skipped out the door, slung her backpack over her shoulder, and got into the car. Magneto stood at the door, glancing into the house with a hint of worry: ever since these children were brought here, he had to pray every time he left that his house would still be there when he returned.
The car drove towards Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Anya was now a student there. Although only Professor X could see her, there was no doubt that Charles Xavier was a good teacher and could easily teach an elementary school student.
Although many years have passed, Anya has been asleep in Magneto's brainwaves most of the time. So, despite her actual age, her mental age is only that of an elementary school student. Moreover, it seems that due to the limitations of her life form, her psychological development is relatively slow, and she will probably have to study in elementary school for many more years.
As Anya rushed into the school like a whirlwind, Magneto was about to turn and leave when he heard Professor X's voice: "Wait, Eric, we need to talk."
Hearing this usually meant he was in trouble. But Magneto truly didn't know anything more troublesome than four minor demons of cosmic scale. He'd be grateful to Charles if he could even stay home half an hour later.
Magneto arrived at Professor X's office soon after, where Professor X was still sitting in his wheelchair as always, with a large pile of books and lesson plans on his desk, his blue eyes appearing and disappearing in the morning light.
“I’ve received an invitation,” Professor X said. “Something’s happened in our main universe, which might attract an attack from Batman from the neighboring universe. They don’t want to fight in their own universe and think this is a good location, so they’ve invited us to be the main force in the war. What do you think?”
Magneto could hardly believe what he was hearing, but his usual serious expression prevented him from showing it. He simply sat down across the desk, looking at Professor X with his ever-present poker face, engaging in some kind of brainwave exchange that didn't involve brainwaves at all.
But Professor X understood him too well; that expression meant "absurd."
“I know you’ll find this absurd. If the problem is in the main universe, why should we be the ones to fight it? But we can never look at something in isolation; we have to consider the timing and the environment. Now is a good time.”
Professor X tilted his head and said, "Many universes are poised to rise to the top in the multiverse. It's not about flowery speeches or empty promises; might makes right. Ultimately, whoever becomes the leader of the multiverse human alliance will be the strongest. And to determine who is the strongest, a war is inevitable."
"The Multiverse Alliance was established to enhance the human race's ability to withstand disasters, so of course, we can't have a civil war. Exchanging blows with neighboring worlds naturally becomes the best stage. Whoever can stand up at this time will be able to stand out and establish their position."
"You mean we should step forward?" Magneto narrowed his eyes slightly, then said, "Why doesn't the main universe do such a good thing itself?"
"Because they don't have the capability. Ultron, who invaded the neighboring multiverse, originated from there. It's impossible for Ultron not to have made preparations in his own home. Just driving out this cunning electronic life form would take a lot of effort. Besides, who has the absolute confidence to outmaneuver Batman?"
“They don’t have it, so why should we?” Magneto frowned. “Don’t forget how much trouble Batman caused at the magic school. A few of them are hard to deal with, let alone a group. Besides, the Justice League isn’t to be trifled with.”
“We’re not going to go it alone,” Professor X said, shaking his head. “Whoever steps up to take responsibility has the right to lead their followers. If the neighboring world invades, this universe won’t stand idly by. We can easily use this opportunity to gather them together and establish the prototype of a multiverse alliance.”
Magneto remained silent for a moment before saying, "Why do I feel this isn't a coincidence? The concept of the Multiverse Human Alliance hasn't been around for long, and yet this opportunity has arisen. It can't be some kind of divine favor, can it?"
“God won’t be on our side, but Schiller will,” Professor X said with a laugh. “While I’m not sure what role he played in this whole affair, I know this is exactly the situation he wanted.”
Magneto sighed softly and said, "I guess the people in the main universe have definitely fallen for his trick. But it's actually a good thing for us. Now, what should we do?"
“Wait,” Professor X said, “wait for our people to return from the next world.”
“Wait a minute,” Magneto suddenly realized something and said, “So it’s not surprising that Batmen would come to our universe to borrow people? Our people helped them solve a big problem, so we have to show some mercy when we’re about to take action.”
"It's not really for that. The main thing is to leave something behind to distract Batman and prevent us from actually being unable to defeat him. Of course, we also need to gather some intelligence, especially on the strongest Batmen over there."
Magneto nodded and said, "If Schiller really was involved in this, I'm afraid the main universe isn't just unwilling to take the lead, but probably completely unable to do so. God bless them."
When Schiller arrived at Stark Tower, Magneto was already there, but he looked extremely unwell. Iron Man from the main universe, on the other hand, was visibly on the verge of exploding with anxiety.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
“Jarvis is fine,” Magneto said. “I can’t sense Ultron’s presence here. But apparently, our great scientist has paranoia and thinks I’m talking nonsense.”
"Because you can't provide any evidence at all. What you have is like the Emperor's New Clothes; even my radio wave detection machine can't detect anything. How can you expect me to believe it?" The main universe's Iron Man raised his voice.
“Alright,” Schiller began, “the current situation is that it’s very likely your old nemesis Whiplash kidnapped Dr. Pym. We suspect Jarvis leaked the information to him. In other words, Jarvis may have been replaced by Ultron, but current detection methods haven’t found any trace of Ultron. Is that right?”
The Iron Man of the main universe nodded, his face grim. Even at this point, he still dared not put on the suit. After all, Magneto was unlikely to suddenly go berserk and kill him, but Jarvis, controlled by Ultron, might.
He didn't want to believe Jarvis was under control, but he remained suspicious. As long as this suspicion existed, his greatest source of security—the mech—was essentially rendered useless.
Schiller looked at Magneto and said, "Are you sure you can't sense Ultron's presence?"
“I used this method to drive away Ultron, who wanted to invade the Brotherhood of Mutants, and I’m sure it worked. But here, Simon Williams’ remains are unresponsive. This proves that not only is Ultron not here, but he was never here either. Jarvis probably drove him away.”
“Okay,” Schiller said, looking at the main universe’s Iron Man. “Now there’s another possibility: Jarvis is fine, but someone else leaked your plans to Whiplash.”
"Who else could it be? You're not going to say Captain America, are you? He's not that kind of person. Even if he opposes our plan, he wouldn't use such underhanded tactics. Spider-Man is even less likely."
Schiller thought for a moment and said, "That proves there's a third party we don't know about. You should calm down, Tony. You can use technology to check if Jarvis is being controlled. Verify that first before you can regain your fighting ability. There's no shame in calling Captain America."
Iron Man clenched his fist. He knew Schiller was right; this was the best approach. He needed people to protect him during this time, and Doctor Strange needed to travel to various universes to secure allies. Captain America and Spider-Man were the best candidates.
“Alright, I can go find them for you, but you have to promise me you won’t leave Magneto’s sight during this time and won’t give him a chance to harm you,” Schiller said.
As Schiller walked towards the door, the main universe's Iron Man suddenly called him back. He turned around, his blue eyes fixed on him, and said, "Do you know something?"
"Any rational person can tell that all of these things are designed to weaken your fighting power. If Iron Man loses all his abilities, the Avengers' defenses will become very weak, and you will have no chance of withstanding Batman's attack."
"Could this be a Batman conspiracy?"
“Nobody knows. But if this continues, you’re doomed to lose.” Schiller said, then turned and left.
