Chapter 3804 The School Doctor's "Daily Life" (19)
"Night Owl infiltrated the Enchanted Forest and found traces of someone's activities there. I suspect these traces might have been set up by the production team. Based on the plot of the first movie, these should be traces of the main villain, Saffir. The secret room we are currently using should also be Saffir's stronghold in the story."
"What do you want to do?" Arkham Batman turned to the main universe Batman who had spoken and asked.
"What did we do when we found mucus on Schiller?"
"You mean he'll go to the library to look up information?"
“Even if he wasn’t Bruce Wayne, he was still Batman. Every Batman trusts more the theoretical data on paper. That kind of stuff can only be found in a library.”
“But that book…” Arkham Batman said with some difficulty, “It might fool moviegoers who don’t know much about magic. Anyone with higher education and scientific research experience will find that it’s utter nonsense and doesn’t match the current level of magical development in this universe.”
“So we’re not going to use this book,” said the main universe Batman. “We’ll write a more realistic, more logical one.”
"You mean you're going to compile an illustrated guide?" Batman the Great Adventurer asked, somewhat surprised. "But Owl should be going to the library soon. Even if we write non-stop, we won't have enough time, will we?"
"So we'll split into two groups. One group will cause him some trouble, keeping him from going to the library to look up information; the other group will start compiling a magic encyclopedia. And don't forget, we're magicians now. The essence of magic is to make your wishes come true."
The main universe's Batman picked up another wand from the side and then took Saffir's notebook. He laid the notebook flat, then pointed the wand at a blank space, and a line of text quickly appeared.
"Wow!" exclaimed Batman the Adventurer. "This is much faster than writing it myself. Can you draw the diagrams?"
The main universe's Batman paused. He focused his attention, and a lifelike drawing appeared on the notebook. Then he infused it with some magic, and the drawings actually came to life.
“Perfect. I can’t think of anything that wouldn’t fool that guy,” Arkham Batman said. “So you’re in charge of writing it, and I’ll go and cause him some trouble.”
“Don’t resort to force,” the main universe Batman said. “Although beating him up and sending him to the school hospital for ten days or two weeks would be the most effective way to buy time, Schiller is the most unstable element in all the plans. If possible, it’s best to prevent them from having any contact.”
“Then we’ll have to distract him… I have a plan,” said Batman Arkham.
The group discussed for a while, then returned to their dormitory. The main universe Batman and the Arkham Batman didn't rest immediately upon returning. The main universe Batman stared out the window for a moment, looking towards the Enchanted Forest.
The next morning, Schiller was woken up again by Arkham Batman. He opened the door and looked at the tall figure standing there with a hint of exasperation, saying, "What is it now? Who's injured again?"
"No, Doctor. I just didn't want to attend my History of Magic class this morning, so I came here to hide."
“Batman actually skips class…” Schiller couldn’t help but say.
“I don’t know about others, but I do,” Arkham Batman said as he entered the office. “Could I use the study?”
"You don't consider yourself an outsider."
"Outsiders won't pay your bills."
Schiller sighed, led him to the private meeting room on the second floor, and said, "You better not be planning to conduct any dangerous experiments here, or you'll find that the last bill didn't allow me to perform at my full potential."
"Don't worry, doctor."
After Batman went inside in Arkham, Schiller didn't bother him. The Batman in the Arkham Knight universe is both dangerous and safe. He's a very straightforward person, ruthless to enemies, but honest and straightforward with friends. He won't agree to something unless he can do it, and most of the time he's quite reliable.
Schiller is really starting to memorize his lines today. He's on the first floor of his office, carefully studying the script. Although his memory isn't a problem, often the knowledge just doesn't stick; he can't concentrate on reading anymore.
In particular, this film features a lot of dialogue, with long stretches of monologue. Schiller was starting to regret getting involved in the film.
This morning, Neptune Academy and Mercury Academy had class together again. Night Owl astutely noticed that neither the Arkham Batman nor the main universe Batman was present. And this wasn't the first time they'd skipped class; it was highly suspicious.
It's not surprising that Batman would skip class, but the key question is what they did after they skipped class.
Night Owl knew these two were incredibly capable: they could whip up a production line in ten minutes, arm an arsenal in half an hour, conquer the Atlantic in an hour, and take off for the moon in half a day. They'd skipped almost seven hours of class already; could they reappear as the Sorcerer Supreme?!
The more Night Owl thought about it, the more uneasy he felt. He had a feeling that the two of them were secretly competing behind his back. In addition, he wasn't interested in those myths and legends, so halfway through the class, he excused himself to go to the restroom and slipped away.
The magic school wasn't just for students of their grade; there were also many mages from Kamar-Taj. Night Owl arrived at the Neptune Academy's common room and asked several people before finally getting a clue about the two.
In the main universe, Batman naturally went to the library. Night Owl wasn't surprised at all. This guy was definitely secretly studying, using that time he'd spent listening to myths to learn magic theory. While Night Owl was worried he was learning too fast, he also knew that magic wasn't a subject that could be improved simply by reading books.
What worried him more was the whereabouts of Arkham Batman. Night Owl learned from students at Havenstar Academy that Arkham Batman had been frequently visiting the school hospital these past few days.
That's strange. Although there have been frequent fights lately, no one seems to have hurt Batman Arkham. He's basically always taking on multiple opponents and dominating them. Even the Sorcerer Supreme almost got punched by him when he tried to break up the fight. While he did injure his arm before, it shouldn't be a serious injury requiring hospitalization, right?
There's definitely something fishy going on here. Arkham Batman definitely didn't go there to recuperate. Night Owl felt his theory was correct. But what could possibly keep him going to the school hospital?
Night Owl had also visited the school clinic before and hadn't noticed anything unusual. If he had to say anything, the only thing that was unusual was the school doctor. He had also heard of Schiller's great reputation.
Wait a minute. Although Schiller isn't Batman, his reputation in the fighting world speaks volumes about his strength. If he can recruit those evil superheroes, then it's not impossible for Arkham Batman to recruit Schiller.
Thinking about this, Night Owl became restless. Superman was indeed strong, and an evil Superman with no bottom line was an even sharper weapon. But Superman's strength was obvious, while Schiller couldn't understand it.
Night Owl hadn't encountered many Schillers, but the one who left a deep impression on him was the agent. While the agent was skilled and efficient, he didn't seem as outrageous as the rumors suggested. The other Schillers didn't seem particularly special either. So why did so many people consider him the number one mastermind behind the fighting world?
Everything about Schiller was shrouded in mystery, making it impossible to see clearly or deduce anything. But Owl's intuition told him that this guy was not simple, and he absolutely could not let him stand on the opposite side.
Of course, his previous conspiracy with the Laughing Man definitely offended the agents. But just like Batman, his counterparts in different universes are of different classes, and their stances may not be entirely the same. Offending one doesn't mean he can't win over another.
Thinking this, Night Owl hurried towards the school hospital. He couldn't let Arkham Batman get there first. Even if he couldn't win over Schiller, he couldn't let him succeed!
Walking down the street, Night Owl couldn't help but ponder. His battle between good and evil against the main universe's Batman had no way out. It wasn't that he wanted to fight the main universe's Batman, but rather that these righteous Batmen couldn't tolerate the existence of evil.
Although Nite Owl has kept his origin universe hidden, the Batmen will eventually find out that he murdered his parents and brother. Even if his parents were corrupt and deserved to die, his brother Bruce Jr. was truly innocent. And over the years, countless innocent people have died at his hands. Based on this alone, there is no possibility of reconciliation between them.
Since there's no way out, we must go all out. This struggle is a zero-sum game. For every step the opponent takes, we must take a step back. If the opponent gains the support of a strong ally, we will lose that ally and face even greater pressure.
Although the conflict is currently confined to the Batman Group, at most affecting the Justice League, it's foreseeable that a major battle between good and evil will soon erupt in the fighting world.
What worries Owl is that the line between good and evil isn't as simple as it seems on the surface. For example, although the Joker appears to be evil, the Joker of the main universe might not necessarily side with him against the Batman of his universe, and might even stand with the Batman of the main universe at crucial moments.
His initial investment in The Laughing Maniac had been wasted, and even though he had also wasted time on the main universe's Batman side, he still had no advantage. Every step from now on had to be extremely cautious; the slightest misstep could lead to utter ruin.
With a heavy heart, Night Owl knocked on Schiller's office door. Schiller quickly locked the script in his drawer. He had also signed a confidentiality agreement; he didn't want to pay compensation.
Chris trusted Schiller and gave him a complete script, including not only his scenes but also those of other characters. If this got out, it would cause a huge uproar on the internet, and even Jarvis might not be able to stop it. The compensation he would have to pay would be astronomical, and if it affected the box office of the sequel, he wouldn't be able to explain it to anyone.
Schiller was nervous about the script's security, but to Night Owl, this expression meant that he had uncovered Schiller's plot with Arkham Batman, which was why Schiller was so nervous.
Although Schiller wasn't a professor, he was the school doctor and oversaw such a large school hospital. It would be incredibly easy for him to trip them up. Thinking this, Night Owl quickly walked to the opposite desk and sat down.
"What's wrong?" Schiller asked. "Are you feeling unwell?"
"I'm just... not very interested in the history of magic, and I'd like to find a place to study. Do you have a study room here?"
Schiller was speechless. What was wrong with all these Batmen? Want to study but not go to the library, instead of the school clinic?
There is a study, but there's an Arkham Batman hiding in there. If you actually go in, I'll have some work to do.
“No,” Schiller could only say. “If you really want to stay here, go to the ward. The ward where the chandelier fell hasn’t been repaired yet, and there’s no one in it. You can stay there.”
