Chapter 455: Letter from Mei
Chapter 455: Letter from Mei
After seeing off Lady Jia, Wang Xifeng took a short nap.
When she got up, Chunnuan and An'er were not there. Instead, Yue Shao and two little palace maids were guarding carefully in the outer room.
Wang Xifeng coughed.
Yue Shao hurriedly lifted the gauze curtain for her and whispered, "Are you awake, Madam? Do you want to get up?"
"Yeah. Water." Wang Xifeng slowly sat up.
Yue Shao turned around, asked the maid to bring her some warm water to drink, and told her to wash up. Then he whispered to Wang Xifeng:
"Ms. An'er and Jingquan just came back a while ago, so I took Miss An'er's place to have lunch.
"Miss Chunnuan went out with little brother Chunsheng, saying that the queen knew about it.
"Chief Eunuch Jingli and the two eunuchs we brought from the other palace are guarding the palace gate."
Wang Xifeng nodded slightly to show that she understood. She drank two sips of warm water, got up and washed her face. Only then did she feel like she could open her mouth again. She asked lazily:
"Did anyone come to see me just now?"
“Replying to the Imperial Concubine, yes.
"Prince Jing's Mansion sent a box of ginseng slices, saying that you were too tired and asked you to take it easy. I heard that you went to sleep without having lunch and didn't want to be disturbed.
"The head of the Imperial Household Department, Yuan, who is your uncle's family, sent some food and daily necessities over, and Miss An'er asked her to keep them.
"Then Princess Yongning and Princess Le'an sent someone to ask you when you are free. They want to come and see you."
Yue Shao paused for a moment and asked in confusion, "Who is this Le'an County Master?"
Wang Xifeng yawned and waved her hand: "Go ask Jingli."
Yue Shao's heart skipped a beat, knowing that he had said the wrong thing. He was silent for a moment before asking, "Is your Majesty fully awake? Do you have an appetite for something to eat?"
Wang Xifeng sat there in a daze for another three or five breaths before she nodded, "Okay."
Yue Shao was busy preparing the meal.
Wang Xifeng sat at the table with her long hair loose, looking polite but actually eating her lunch quickly.
After a hearty meal, she finally regained her spirits.
Chunnuan and An'er also came back, so Yue Shao obediently went outside to wait for being called.
Wang Xifeng first ordered Chunnuan: "Go and invite Princess Yongning and Lady Zhai to come over. Tell them that they can go to the coffin together from my place later."
Then he beckoned An'er to come and comb his hair: "What did my aunt send?"
An Er combed her hair into a simple bun and said softly, "Food and daily necessities, and two sets of clothes."
Wang Xifeng looked at her in the mirror.
An'er nodded slightly.
It seems that it is something that is best not to be known.
She combed her hair quickly, pinning a pure white velvet flower on her temples, and then turned around:
"Bring the food here so I can take a look. You have to eat it quickly if it can't be left."
An'er responded respectfully, waved to the two palace maids, and brought in a box and placed it on the table.
The others backed out.
An'er went forward and opened the box.
The top layer was two boxes of nuts, the most taboo kind.
The middle layer contains two sets of dresses.
One set is pure white, and the other set is moon white.
Wang Xifeng frowned, picked it up and looked at it, then turned to An'er.
An'er whispered, "The people sent by my aunt said that the moon-white dress was thrown out from the Muni Temple..."
Muniyuan?!
Mei Ruoqin!
Wang Xifeng narrowed her eyes.
An'er reached into the box and took out a letter from the bottom. Using the cover of the box lid, he handed it to Wang Xifeng:
"The man said there was a letter hidden inside the dress, and it seemed to be meant for them to get."
Wang Xifeng lowered her head and looked at the cover.
Dear Afeng,
Signature: Mei, Chinese character.
In other words, this was the letter Mei Ruoqin wanted to give to him. Moreover, she was able to put the dress and the letter together so that the Yuan family could pick them up.
"He's still a little clever." Wang Xifeng murmured.
After taking the letter, Wang Xifeng looked down and asked, "Anything else?"
Seeing that she didn't seem to care, An'er smiled helplessly: "Money."
really!
Wang Xifeng's eyes suddenly lit up!
At the bottom of the small box, there were actually small silver ingots weighing one or two taels neatly stacked!
"I think I thought you wouldn't have too much change for rewards with you, so I sent it here specially.
“Although it’s not much, it’s the most practical.
"I roughly counted them. Two floors, two hundred."
An'er smiled.
Wang Xifeng also laughed: "That's right, I have only a few thousand banknotes on me, but I'm unfamiliar with this place and it's hard to exchange them.
"The most lacking thing for reward is small change. Aunt is so thoughtful."
He smiled at An'er and said, "Take it and divide it among yourself. Save what you should save and spend what you should spend these days.
"You guys, I'll reward you after we return to the palace."
He told An'er to pack it up, and then he took the letter back to the bed, sat down and opened it.
After reading it, Wang Xifeng fell into deep thought.
An'er put the silver away, packed her clothes into a bag, and took out the food and boxes for Yue Shao to take away temporarily.
When she returned to the house, she saw her mother reading the letter again, then putting it back into the envelope and handing it to her: "Burn it when the time comes."
An'er agreed, took it and put it in his arms.
Wang Xifeng sat for a while before looking up at An'er: "Mei Ruoqin said she doesn't want to live anymore."
"I don't believe it." An'er responded quickly.
Wang Xifeng smiled and said, "I don't believe it either."
The master and servant smiled at each other.
"Let them get something to eat and drink--some nuts, that's right, and some cool drinks, without ice."
Just as Wang Xifeng finished giving her instructions, she heard someone outside come in to announce, "The princess and the county lady are here."
Wang Xifeng hurriedly ordered him to come.
Two men came in, also dressed in plain mourning clothes. Wang Xifeng greeted them and they sat down as host and guest.
Wang Xifeng looked at the two of them and said with a smile, "It's good to see that the princess and the county lady are not overheated.
"Please forgive me for not having experienced such a big occasion. I am so busy right now that I haven't been able to take care of you these past two days."
Princess Yongning chuckled, "This is your first time, and it's also the first time for Concubine Xu.
"This time, the Grand Master and my brother were both perfunctory and didn't even think of sending a prince to take charge.
"I sent someone back to the capital to tell my brother last night, and I believe there will be an order tonight.
"I should have told you earlier in the morning, but the imperial concubine invited several clan members and the old imperial edict to speak, so I couldn't interrupt.
"It has been delayed until now."
Wang Xifeng also smiled helplessly: "Originally, I mentioned this matter to Dai Xiang in the other palace, thinking that the imperial guards would report that Prince Su had gone to the other palace.
“I’m still thinking about it. It just so happens that he has gained some experience, so I can give this matter to him.
"Who would have thought that he would do such a foolish thing on his own..."
As he spoke he sighed.
Princess Yongning was silent for a moment, then smiled bitterly: "Fortunately, no big mistake was made, and my father was tolerant and did not kill him.
"When I came here, my brother kept telling me that Ming'er should just send Ninth Brother over there and let the two of them go to keep each other company."
Wang Xifeng waved her hand: "I actually heard the Ninth Prince say a few words in Daming Palace. He was much more sober than Prince Su.
"Your Majesty, you'd better not let them get together, or they will start fighting again."
