Chapter 113 Mushroom and Scallion Oil

Chapter 113 Mushroom and Scallion Oil

After sleeping for more than an hour, Xia Qingyue felt groggy and lay on her side on the bed, facing the window. She looked at the light outside through the gap, staring blankly with her mind empty.

Although it is getting cooler in the morning and evening, the sky is still clear during the day.

Heihei curled up in the nest beside the bed and slept quietly.

Xia Qingyue looked at Heihei. Her face was slightly red from sleeping, and a happy smile was on her bruised face.

There were still things to do in the afternoon, so she got up quickly and moved gently, not wanting to disturb Heihei's rest.

However, even so, Heihei still woke up. As soon as he woke up, he stood up and looked around to find where she was. He didn't relax until he saw her.

Her heart was so soft that she stroked the dark top of his head gently with her hand, "Sleep a little longer, we won't go out today."

Heihei tilted his head back and rubbed her palm, his face full of joy.

The man and the dog played around in the room for a while, then she found some cotton cloth and rolled it into cotton thread to be used in making candles later.

Come out of the cave.

"Heihei, go play by yourself and don't go out into the sun."

Heihei had a round wooden disc in his mouth, which Xia Qingyue had brought back from the cave.

She originally wanted to use it as a heat insulation board for the pot, but one day it fell to the ground, Heihei picked it up in his mouth, ran around excitedly, threw the wooden plate away with all his strength, and then ran after it, having a lot of fun.

She suddenly realized that she had neglected Heihei by not getting him some toys to entertain himself. She had things to do every day to kill time, but Heihei had none.

It is hard to imagine that the longest time Heihei spends every day is by her side. Apart from sleeping and eating, he has no time to have fun alone.

Since then, the wooden plate has become Heihei's favorite toy.

Heihei was playing alone in an open space on the side. Xia Qingyue poured the tung trees into a large basin and rinsed them with water. The water from the first two rinses was relatively dirty and contained impurities, so she had to rinse them a few more times to make them clean.

She poured the washed Chinese tallow fruits into two large earthenware pots, added water to both pots and boiled them. While boiling, she found a piece of gauze, covered the wooden basin with it, and tied it around the basin with a thin rope.

Take out the boiled Chinese tallow fruit, pour it onto gauze while it is still hot and spread it flat, press and mash it with a stick for several minutes, and the wax in it will be filtered through the gauze into the wooden basin below.

Put the mashed Chinese tallow fruit into another bowl with wax in it, and do it again later.

She was busy as a top while cooking and pounding the tung nuts.

After pounding hundreds of kilograms of Chinese tallow fruit, her hands began to tremble uncontrollably. She sat down to rest for a few minutes, then washed the pounded Chinese tallow fruit with hot water. When the water was poured out, the wax inside would float on the surface, like a layer of solidified lard with some black impurities in white.

Put the skimmed wax together with the wax filtered in the wooden basin, add water in batches and heat again. Again, two pots are used together. This step is to heat and melt the wax and blend it with the water.

Filter the hot wax water into a basin with gauze. Pour it slowly and don't rush.

Filter three times in this way, the impurities remain on the gauze and the wax water remains in the basin. After cooling, the wax solidifies into lard-like blocks and automatically separates from the water.

The wax was placed in a ceramic pot and heated. During this time, she found thin bamboo and split it into sections, each about the thickness of two fingers and about thirty centimeters long.

Dozens of split bamboo tubes covered the table and the open space below.

Pour the hot wax into the bamboo tube in the same way as you did with the honey candles. Let it cool and solidify, and the candle is ready.

After all the work, four hours passed.

There are not enough bamboo tubes and there is still a large piece of wax. I can only go out and find some bamboo tomorrow and then continue.

The sun was setting in the west, and the sky was filled with brilliant rays of light. The tiankeng was covered with a layer of dazzling rays of light, which was so beautiful that she was fascinated by it.

She sat on a big rock and admired the beautiful evening scenery for a while. Thinking about having dinner early, she got up and went to the kitchen to busy herself.

She kept four baskets of fresh mushrooms that she found two days ago, and planted some large-rooted wild onions, keeping two full baskets of fresh ones. She wanted to make some mushroom oil and onion oil.

It can be used for stir-frying or other eating methods. Unfortunately, there is not much flour left, but it is enough to make a few noodles.

There are only a few dried vermicelli left, and they will be gone once you finish them.

She wanted to make some more rice noodles, but considering that there was not much rice and she didn't know how long the snow would last in the winter, she finally gave up the idea.

She washed the mushrooms and wild onions and let them drain. There was some leftover food from lunch, so she planned to make some fried rice with eggs, stir-fry some vegetables, and boil some pumpkin soup.

You should eat at night, but not too much.

She seemed to eat a lot of meat and other food every day, did a lot of work, was over 1.6 meters tall, and weighed about 100 kilograms. Compared to when she traveled through time, she had gained about ten kilograms.

Drain the vegetables, first cut the roots and leaves of the wild onion separately, then cut the mushrooms, including chicken mushroom, chanterelles, and porcini.

After cutting the mushrooms, rinse the cutting board and knife several times and blanch them in boiling water.

Pour lard into the hot pan and heat until it melts and starts to smoke. Add the scallion roots and fry them for a while before adding the scallion leaves. Fry until they start to change color. Remove from the pan and set aside. The residual heat will fry the scallion roots and leaves until golden.

The air is filled with the rich aroma of onions.

When the temperature drops, pour the lard into a ceramic pot before it solidifies.

It would be better if there was another kind of oil, but peanut oil was relatively scarce and she wanted to save it for later when she got tired of lard and wanted to improve the taste. However, due to limited conditions, she could only use lard.

The method of making mushroom oil is the same as that of scallion oil. Heat the oil in the pan until it smokes, add the mushrooms, and stir-fry over low heat until there is no water left.

I made more mushroom oil and put it in two ceramic jars.

Leave some mushroom oil in the iron pan, beat in the beaten egg liquid and fry until cooked, use a spatula to push the golden egg aside, pour the rice in, press and stir-fry, after it is fried, push the egg off and crush it with a spatula.

Since mushrooms have their own umami flavor, she only added an appropriate amount of salt to the fried rice.

The super delicious fried rice is oily and fragrant, and very appetizing.

The pumpkin soup in the pot was ready, and she quickly cooked and fried a dish of shepherd's purse.

Heihei eats pumpkin soup mixed with rice.

The first bite of fried rice she took was unexpectedly delicious. It looked oily but was not greasy. The rice was soaked in the fresh aroma of mushroom oil, and the fried mushrooms tasted dry and fragrant, with a rich umami flavor.

After eating until she was 70% full, she put down her bowl and chopsticks with satisfaction.

After dinner, she peeled three kiwis and ate them. The kiwis and wild apples were placed in a cool place. Although they did not go bad, they would not last long.

She washed three wild apples for Heihei, removed the cores, and threw them to him to eat.

There was still a lot to do in the evening, so she cleaned up the kitchen and went to look at the candles. They were already set, so she broke one open and lit it.

The light of candles made from Chinese tallow tree is the same as that of beeswax candles, but compared with the latter, it has obvious disadvantages. First, the smoke is slightly larger, and second, the smell is not as pleasant.

But for her, it’s not a big problem, as long as she can light up the room.
